Save Gas! Travel by Rail or Bus

As with any trip, plan ahead! For traveling within the Los Angeles County, use the Metro Trip Planer as a guide. If traveling from Northern California, San Diego County, or anywhere in-between, consider using Amtrak or Greyhound . Listed below are many of the transit services available within the Greater Los Angeles County.

Southern California
Go Metro!
If you live anywhere within the Greater Los Angeles County, from Pasadena to San Fernando Valley, or from Long Beach to the heart of the City of Los Angeles, take any one of the Metro Rail Lines closest to you. No need to deal with traffic congestion or unhealthy smog on your trip. And a one-way trip ticket or an all-day pass could cost less than a gallon of gas! Fare tickets must be purchased prior to boarding. The Metro Rail system is comprised of the Metro Blue, Green, Purple, Red and Gold Lines.

  • The Metro Blue Line: runs north and south between Long Beach and Los Angeles.(Blue [801] Line Time Table in PDF format)
  • The Metro Green Line: crosses the Blue Line, running east and west between Norwalk and Redondo Beach, curving south near the Los Angeles International Airport.(Green [803] Line Time Table in PDF format)
  • The Metro Purple Line: subway shares six stations with the Red Line Downtown (see below) and continues to the Mid-Wilshire area.( Purple [805] Line Time Table in PDF format)
  • The Metro Red Line: subway meets the Blue Line in Los Angeles and provides service through Downtown, between Union Station, the Mid-Wilshire area, Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, where it meets the Metro Orange Line bus transitway (Red [802] Line Time Table and Orange [901] Line Time Table in PDF format)
  • The Metro Gold Line: connects with the Red Line at Union Station, and runs northeast to Pasadena(Gold [804] Line Time Table in PDF format).
