Capoeira
Saturday November 10 10:00 AM-12:00 PM in Carmel (Workshops 1)
Pacific Media Expo is excited to start off their 2012 martial arts workshops with the exciting and wonderful Brazilian martial art of Capoeira. Featured in the movie Only The Strong with actor and martial artist Mark Dacascos, this demo/ workshop will be sure to wow and excite everyone.
Instrutor Guatambu (gwah-tahm-BU) has been training capoeira for over 12 years and and teaching for over six years under the guidance of Mestres Acordeon, R„, and Suelly of the United Capoeira Association in Berkeley, CA. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, and educated in the San Francisco Bay Area, Instrutor Guatambu shares his goal of honoring the joy, personal growth, and community that the art of capoeira offers to any willing to learn. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
Saturday November 10 1:00-3:00 PM in Carmel (Workshops 1)
Pacific Media Expo is pleased to feature a martial arts workshop on the ever growing popular martial art and sport of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Change into your gi and enjoy some mat knowledge dropped by Gracie Barra Black Belt Professor Kenny Tenny. He is currently a black belt under the legendary Carlos Gracie Jr. and the head instructor of Gracie Barra of Agoura Hills.
As mentioned earlier, don't forget to bring a clean BJJ Gi. There will be tatami matted floors so that Professor Tenny can share with you techniques and strategies that have made him successful. Even if you do not have a BJJ Gi come by and check out how Japanese culture has inspired this martial art that hails from Brazil! Open to PMX members only!
Yaw-Yan Ardigma
Saturday November 10 3:00-5:00 PM in Carmel (Workshops 1)
Pacific Media Expo's final martial arts workshop will by no means disappoint. Legendary kickboxing champion of the Philippines, Benigno "Ekin" Caniga will be giving a hands on demonstration and workshop on Sayaw ng Kamatayan (translated to Dance of Death). Yaw Yan, as it is more popularly called, is the Philippines own kickboxing system developed in the early 70's by Grandmaster Nap Fernandez. Not for the weak of heart, the brutal kicks, knees, and elbows, of this art rivals that of Muay Thai, Tae Kwon Do, and other similar martial arts. Don't miss out witnessing and participating in this rare martial arts form slowly gaining popularity in California. |
