We are happy to once again welcome Reiyukai America to PMX. This year, they will be hosting both a panel and a workshop. Their panel will take a look at the nuances of the Japanese world and Eastern culture. The workshop is an interactive look at how to recycle things once thought of as trash into something new and useful. There will be four chances to go to the workshop (children are welcome).
Decoding Japanese Culture
Saturday Nov. 10 from 2-3 p.m. in Los Angeles A&B (LP2)
As the Western world begins to discover the east, the ideas, images, and culture expressed fill the heart with excitement and wonder. Yet, although they have our attention, the preconceptions, stereotypes, and overall lack of knowledge might lead us into a state of confusion.
This panel discussion presented by Reiyukai America analyzes the nuances of the Japanese world, giving an explanation to the Japanese mindset and values of the people. Join us as we take a look into Japanese samurai culture, Japanese history, and Japanese ideals which outline the basis for the Japanese soul. Further discussion will analyze Japanese family values and beliefs to try to clarify the reasons for images found in Japanese anime and the Japanese media.
Come join our discussion!
Oriental Fusion Handcraft Recycling Workshop℠
Friday Nov. 9 from 4-6 p.m. in Los Angeles C (Workshop 2) Saturday Nov. 10 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in Los Angeles C (Workshop 2)
Back by popular demand, the Oriental Fusion Handcraft Recycling Workshop℠ has returned to bring you new exciting ways to recycle things that would once be trash into something new and useful. This transformation process is not only done to breathe new life into ourselves, but also the people and things we interact with everyday.
For PMX this year, we will be creating your own Artistic Designer Bag to be used here at the expo as well as everyday. Inspired from the creating your own prom dress, we have taken washed recycled milk cartons, our fold techniques, and colored duct tape to bring you a sturdy water proof bag that can be used time and time again.
All ages are welcome, with any experience level. We will provide hands on guidance and help you each step of the way, to get you towards your goal. We also will provide all the materials, tools, so no need to carry your glue stick and scissors to the expo.
As an activity of the non-profit organization Reiyukai America, we are not looking for profit, however we ask that guests provide a $3 donation/per craft to help cover the cost of the materials that will be used during the workshop.
There will be four workshops. Please fill out this form if you wish to sign-up for a workshop. Space will be limited to twenty people per session, thank you. |
