Save Gas! Travel by Rail or Bus
As with any trip, plan ahead! For traveling within the Los Angeles County, use the Metro Trip Planner as a guide. If traveling from Northern California, San Diego County, or anywhere in-between, consider using Amtrak or Greyhound. Listed below are many of the transit services available within the Greater Los Angeles County. The Complete Rider's Guide applies to all Metro bus and rail services.
Southern California Go Metro! If you live anywhere within the Greater Los Angeles County, from Pasadena to San Fernando Valley, or from Long Beach to the heart of the City of Los Angeles, take any one of the Metro Rail Lines closest to you. No need to deal with traffic congestion or unhealthy smog on your trip. And a one-way trip ticket or an all-day pass could cost less than a gallon of gas! Fare tickets must be purchased prior to boarding.
The Metro Rail system is comprised of the Metro Blue, Green, Purple, Red and Gold Lines.
(Note: Metro Timetables are in PDF format and are subject to change without notice. Adobe® Acrobat Reader plug-in required for viewing.)
The Union Station, Van Nuys, and Westwood Flyaway Buses: The Union Station Flyaway bus runs in both directions every 30 minutes between 5 a.m. and 1 a.m., and every hour from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. The buses depart Patsaouras Transit Plaza and LAX on the hour and half-hour everyday, including weekends and holidays.
If you are coming from the San Fernando Valley, you can take the Van Nuys Flyaway bus with direct service every 15 to 30 minutes to LAX. The new Van Nuys Flyaway station at Woodley Ave and Saticoy St. has a new, state-of-the-art 2,000-space parking structure so you'll never have to worry about running out of parking!
West L.A residents can now enjoy the convenience of the brand new Westwood Flyaway bus located in the front of UCLA Parking Structure 32 on the corner of Weyburn Pl. and Kinross Avenue. Now you don't have to fight the 405 traffic from the Westside to attend PMX!
The fare for all Flyaway buses is $4 one way ($8 round trip) for adults, $2 for children between 2 and 12 years, and free for children under 2 years. Tickets are available from kiosks staffed 24 hours daily and located a few feet from the FlyAway stop at Patsaouras Transit Plaza and at the Van Nuys Flyaway terminal.
When you arrive at the Lower Level of LAX, the Flyaway buses will drop you off at the Green Area (Flyaway, Buses and Long Distance Vans) for all terminals. To catch the free hotel shuttle to the LAX Hilton, walk a few steps to the Red Area (Hotel & Parking Lot Shuttles). Make sure to tell the shuttle driver you are going to the LAX Hilton.
